Showability, Satisfaction - Guaranteed

EquineXpressions (photography) reserves the right to not take pictures of horses for classes they are not suitable for. If such pictures are taken, no guarentee is provided.

Showability:

If the pictures taken by EquineXpressions (photography) for photo showing are ever disqualified for technical reasons, such as bits or cinches misplaced or poorly adjusted, the photos will be retaken free of charge. (Return shipping charges included.)

This guarantee will not come into force if the rules of a performance class are changed. For example, the use of tires in a trail class as a step through obstacle are now illegal (in most breed shows). If a trail photo was taken with tires as an obstacle, this would not be covered.

If a specific set of tack is requested that is illegal, the guarantee is void.

Satisfaction:

After the photos are taken and delivered, if for any reason the photos are not satisfactory, the photos may be returned within two weeks of receipt, in the same (unshown) condition for a full refund of photographic charges.

Suitability

A few general comments on performance suitability follow. And of course for every rule, there is often an exception:

• Suitability for performance is based in part on the horse's type. For instance, a horse with braided mane is generally suitable for English classes, not Western; an obviously warmblood type is not suitable for stock type classes; and a cutting horse is not suitable for a Dressage class. (Ability in performance is also related to conformation, but that subject took the magazine Equus more than a year to cover in its pages.)
  
• A horse with it's head turned can be well used in trail (and possibly jumper/cross country), but it can be a detriment to other events, such as pleasure.
  
• Pleasure (Western, English, Country), bareback, and sidesaddle classes require a horse that appears a "pleasure" to ride, not wild, hot, or hard to handle. Sidesaddle especially needs a "calm" horse for a lady to ride aside. Pleasure horses are not generally park horses. Also note that in most cases children (under 18) are forbidden to ride stallions in performance classes.
  
• The current headset that is winning in real horse show rings for Western Pleasure is no longer the "peanut roller" of the 1970's, but the head is not much higher than the withers; this is true for Arabians as well as most stock breeds (Arabians are a bit higher). English Pleasure Quarter Horse have their headset a bit higher, but not too much. Other lightbreeds allow a more "natural" headset. Some model horse judges do place according to head set.
  
• Only Arabian and 1/2 Arabian horses are appropriate for Arabian Costume. Arabian costume includes three "gaits" -- stand, canter and hand gallop; some model horse judges mark down for other gaits (such as trot and walk).
  
• Only Quarter, Paint, stock type pintos, Mustangs and Appaloosa horses and ponies of these types are appropriate for Indian Costume. Spotted- or pinto-colored sport and gaited horses are not appropriate for Indian Costume.
  
• Most harness classes require horses to stand/halt (and/or "park out"), walk, trot or back. Different "speeds" of trot can be used; to reference the Dressage movements, both a medium trot and the extended trot may be used. Cantering is infrequently done under harness: for competitive driving (i.e., through obstacles and/or marathon portions), speed events (e.g., chuck wagon racing), or emergencies (i.e., racing for the doctor, pulling the fire engine). Excessive speed is penalized in the show ring. And then of course there's harness racing (trotting and pacing).

Park has two meanings in performance: One is to "stretch" a horse by moving the hind legs back; this is what is meant when a horse is "parked out". The other is a flashy style with a lot of high leg movement; this is what is meant to have a "park horse". Parking out a horse is used in carriage driving to position the horse so it would not move (and therefore move the carriage) when someone was mounting the carriage. Park horses have a lot of high leg movement, are flashy, and often a somewhat fiery or hot attitude.
